SONIA RYKIEL + H&M

Available in time for Christmas, Sonia Rykiel for H&M lingerie will become available in 1,500 H&M stores worldwide starting December 5th. Sonia Rykiel will simultaneously show these pieces in Sonia Rykiel boutiques around the world. The lingerie ads feature models Lara Stone, Caroline Trentini and Anne Vyalitsyna.

“It is a hallmark of Sonia Rykiel to think of all women because fashion is about a certain spirit more than a question of means. This collaboration fits perfectly with our philosophy.” - Nathalie Rykiel, president and artistic director of Sonia Rykiel.

And if that wasn't enough, the French house "founded by the 'Queen of Knits' which represents the distinctive, modern and impertinent spirit of Paris" is also collaborating with the Swedish retailer on a second line, featuring knitwear and accessories for women and girls, to be launched in 250 H&M stores on February 20, 2010.

“Sonia Rykiel is a true fashion icon who invented a signature style around femininity, Parisian chic and modernity - as well as functional, comfortable, wearable clothes. She has an attitude that inspires admiration among women of all ages around the world.” - H&M creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch.

GAGA FOR BEYONCE

Still with Beyonce and Lady Gaga from Beyonce's Video Phone music video . . .

Beyonce gives me everything when it comes to performing--and she's solidifying her status as a bonafide fashionista and tasetemaker. And, Gaga, well Gaga gives me EVERYTHING in terms of fashion. Natch, I think this video is a veritable clash of the proverbial titans. What do you think of the pairing? Did one influence the other, or were the two evenly matched? Click here to see the full video. It's sensory overload, but well worth it. I counted at least 13 wardrobe changes.

MENAGE à TROIKA: BRAD + ANGELINA + ASPREY

Reptilian Rings

The latest offspring from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie arrives in the form of slinky, sexy, serpentine jewelry for British luxury retailer, Asprey. How apropos! What could have spawned this foray into fashion design? Why, charity of course. A portion of proceeds from sales of the limited edition capsule will benefit Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which Angelina co-founded in 2006.

Silver Baby Spoon, $525

I've long appreciated Angelina's subtle style. She favors slithery gowns in blacks, grays and nudes and never appears to try too hard. The fusion of Angelina's aesthetic and Brad Pitt's love of architecture and design should be the antidote to the myriad inexplicable celebrity/design pairings. Hisssss!

OBJET D'ART: CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN JEWELED PLATFORM

Christian Louboutin's Glitter Platforms $2,830.00 at Bergdorf Goodman.
I don't really need to say much about these bejeweled beauties. The 5-inch sparklers are guaranteed to elevate any outfit. I would prefer to wear these with jeans and a white tee. Made of electric blue metallic leather, technicolored stones and a hidden platform, these mutlticolored slingbacks are a bit outrageous, but definitely museum worthy.

THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE

It’s been a while . . .

This Summer I moved (back) to Philadelphia primarily because I accepted a new role as an associate in-house counsel at an investment company. It's now Fall and I can no longer hold on to the many excuses (moving, getting adjusted to a new job, finding an apartment, unpacking, etc.) that I used to delay blogging, working out, checking e-mail and generally fulfilling other obligations. I’ve accepted that there’s no time like the present to return to business as usual. While I was “gone” we’ve had NY Fashion Week, the launch of Gilt Fuse, the announcement of Sonia Rykiel for H&M, the release of The September Issue and Coco avant Chanel . . . all of the foregoing despite the financial crisis. Now that the equity markets are resurging (read: slight uptick, but we can be optimistic, right?) I can only imagine how many bigger and better fashion shows, movies and launches are to come!

Stay tuned, and, as usual, thanks for reading!

SASHA FIERCE + DEREON

WWD reports that House of Deréon designer Beyoncé is set to launch a new junior line inspired by and named for her on-stage alter ego, Sasha Fierce. The collection is inspired by looks created by Thierry Mugler for the singer's world tour (previously discussed here) and according to Tina Knowles, Beyoncés mother and fellow House of Deréon designer, the line is "edgier and trendier and reflects Sasha Fierce's daring and outgoing attitude." The collection features many accessories (read: chains and studded shoes) and fairly simple silhouettes. Sasha Fierce for Deréon will be available in Macy's and Dillard's this fall.

M.A.C. + JIN SOON CHOI

“There are thousands of sheer and natural colors. It’s time to be surprising, revolutionary, edgy. Inspired by architecture, these are colors you’ll now dare to wear.” — Jin Soon

ANNA SUI + TARGET

Finally! Photos of the Gossip Girl-inspired Anna Sui for Target collection are now available. The collection is organized in four distinct groups; outfits befitting Blair, Serena, Vanessa and Jenny. I don't watch the show, but plan to catch up on all of the seasons when they become available on DVD. What do you think? Are the outfits consistent with the styles of each of the four featured characters?
The 19 piece collection will be available in 250 select Target stores September 13 through October 17. For pictures of the entire collection, click here. Click on the label below for vintage Style Collaborations posts.

BETH DITTO + EVANS

Beth Ditto, lead singer of punk rock group Gossip, fashion darling, gay rights activist, feminist, champion for plus size causes and model--most notably as the cover girl for Conde Nast's Love magazine--has designed a line of 80's inspired clothing for the plus size British retailer, Evans. The fashion world has long been criticized for the dearth of high (and lo) fashions for the full figured woman. Many retailers are seeking to address this problem by creating lines geared towards youth oriented plus sizes (see Faith21 for Forever21 discussed infra). Evans, owned by the Arcadia Group, which is parent company to TopShop, was taken to task by Ditto, who demanded that she be allowed to design a line for the company and voila . . . the rest is history. For pictures of the entire Beth Ditto for Evans collection click here.

THE SARTORIALIST DOES BROOKLYN!

Another gratuitous post about two of my favorite things: The Sartorialist and Brooklyn! Fashion photographer Scott Schuman, known for his high quality images for Conde Nast's Style.com, Vogue and many other publications, captured a bit of the essence of Fort Greene while visiting DeKalb Avenue, South Portland Street, South Oxford Street, Fulton Street and Habana Outpost. Enjoy!

BALENCIAGA: CRUISE COLLECTION 2010

Cristóbal Balenciaga, whose sculptural designs were once regarded as masterworks of haute couture, lives on through the artful direction of Nicolas Ghesquière. Ghesquière's Cruise 2010 creations evinces Cristóbal's inventiveness and affirms a commitment to the House's innovations: high waisted dresses, broadening of shoulders, removal of the waist and, of course, play on proportions and volume. Balenciaga Cruise 2010 is a joy to see and must be fun to wear! For pictures of the entire collection click here.

STILL LIFE

Noted still-life photographer Peter Lippmann has paired with Christian Louboutin to work on the French luxury shoe designer's latest ad campaign.
"Ad campaign" seems too pedestrian a term to describe the works produced. Speaking of Objets D'Art! Louboutin's already masterful pieces were re-imagined as 18th century still life art. The Fall Winter campaign was styled by Amandine Moine; Nicolas Menu was the creative director.

KATE MOSS + TOPSHOP: SUMMER '09

Vintage Deco Dresses in Lemon and Peach £130.00

Our favorite model turned designer is at it again. Kate Moss' new collection for TopShop is available online, and hopefully some pieces will make it into stores; especially now that TopShop is Stateside. Kate's latest collection is inspired by her summer travels. Nothing says warm weather more than flirty little dresses, itsy bitsy bikinis and bejeweled party dresses. Fun playsuits, chiffon dresses, caftans and colored jeans add depth to the collection. We expected nothing less from Kate. She has great style and TopShop is a perfect medium by which to share with the masses. Two of my favorite dresses are depicted above. For pictures of the entire collection, click here. Happy shopping!

PRODUCT REVIEW: CANTU SHEA BUTTER

One of the perks of having this blog is getting the opportunity to try amazing products, often times before they hit the market. I'm in essence, a bit of a guinea pig, but I do it all for you. Cry me a river, right? In all seriousness, I love products and was psyched to receive some more, courtesy of Cantu Shea Butter. Cantu's body butter, pictured at left, is as decadent as they come, but is suprisingly light and . . . fluffly; it is. It's less like a butter and more like soufflé. Known for their wide ranging line of haircare products, Cantu is now bringing their 100% pure shea goodness to skincare. Cantu's three new innovative products include the Nourishing Body Oil and Body Butter for maintenance of that fab beach body and Clear Conditioning "Extra Hold" Shine Gel to keep that summer hair at bay. The products retail for a budget friendly $4.99 and $3.99; purchase your Cantu products at a retailer near you. It's better with butter! Tell 'em I sent ya.

KHAKI IS THE NEW GAP!

How apropos. Neutrals are it this season, and the Gap is right on trend. In seasons past, the retailer has paired with Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)/Vogue Fashion Fund winners to rework the classic white shirt--for which the Gap is known.
Models with Alexander Wang, note the motorcycle jacket, shorts and trousers.
Last year's CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners, Phillip Lim (discussed in post below), Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian and ThreeASFOUR (Philip Crangi created jewelry to accompany the collection) each created unique designs, reflective of their style, using the classic Gap white shirt as a basis. Prior to that, winners Doo-Ri Chung, Thakoon Panichgul (One of First Lady Obama's favorites) and Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte each took a turn at transforming the classic white.
Models with Vena Cava's Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai
This year, CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners, Alexander Wang, Vena Cava, and Albertus Swanepöel, were tasked with recreating another Gap classic: the Khaki. The Khaki collection features a motorcycle jacket and chinos courtesy of Alexander Wang, hats by milliner Swanepöel of Albertus Quartus and dresses and a variation on chinos by Vena Cava. Shutterbug Craig McDean photographed Arlenis Sosa, Raquel Zimmerman, Anna Jagodzinska and Coco Rocha for the ad campaign. The collection will become available, both in stores and online, on June 16th. Prices range from $39.50 to $88. For more pictures of the pieces click here and here.

ADULT SWIM: 3.1 PHILLIP LIM

Phillip Lim Swim: Lim's new capsule collection includes floral print bikini and two swimsuits.
Bathing suit season is upon us! And, this time I'm ready. I've been putting in work at the gym and been master cleansing like nobody's business (shout out to Claire at the Fashion Bomb--Equinox misses you!). Nothing keeps me more motivated to run that extra mile, than the prospect of wearing a hot new bathing suit. But, I digress. The bathing suits above, are from Phillip Lim's inaugural bathing suit line. His foray into fashion is not limited to great clothes, he is adding his magic touch to swimwear, lingerie and footwear; pieces will be carried in the US and Asia. Check out a preview of his shoe and lingerie collection here.

FACES OF FASHION: SHANA JACKSON FOR LIZ CLAIBORNE

Have you seen the new Liz Claiborne ads? Better yet, have you seen the new Liz Claiborne? As discussed previously, Isaac Mizrahi is the new creative director and he has completely overhauled the brand . . . and has spearheaded a new ad campaign as well. The colorful advertisements feature real women of all ages, races, shapes and sizes, and a "disguised" Isaac makes a cameo appearance in most. I would like to call your attention to the woman featured in the orange dress above left: Shana Jackson, proprietor of Collecther vintage boutique.
Shana graciously posed for a pic at the Brooklyn Flea. I can see why she was chosen for the ad campaign!
I ran into Shana recently at the Brooklyn Flea. You can run into Shana at Collecther --306 Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. Tell her I sent ya! For more pics of Shana and for behind the scenes pics of the Liz Claiborne photo shoot, check out Isaac Mizrahi's blog.

CHANEL: CRUISE COLLECTION 2010

What's black, white and red all over? Chanel's 2010 Cruise Collection! Recalling the elegance and opulence of the roaring 20's, Karl Lagerfeld's romantic collection is chock full of nautical stripes, pearls, chiffon and what's Chanel without boucle and lace? Featuring models such as Jourdan Dunn (shown at left), Lara Stone and Tatjana Patiz, the flapper-chic presentation was complemented by silent-movie makeup and wavy wigs. Held on the Lido in Venice, at twilight, guests reclined on deck chairs as the catwalkers strutted on the boardwalk. Lagerfeld sought to "reinvent the mystique" of the city in which Mme. Chanel frequently went on holiday, by using fabrics of rich Venetian red and dresses in the style of Fortuny. The collection exhibited Lagerfeld's modern-day mastery of the decorative arts and, much like Venetian artistic brethren of centuries past, commanding use of color. Bellissimo!

OBJET D'ART: LOUIS VUITTON SPICY SANDAL

Louis Vuitton's suede and feather Spicy sandal, $2,289 at Louis Vuitton.
Marc Jacobs must have had fun creating this shoe, and the many others in the Spicy collection. Straight from the runway, this mixed media piece is made from a veritable smorgasbord of materials, including plume feathers, tribal beads, sequins, metallic lace, suede and the leather from a baby goat. The shoe as collage is a cheeky homage to art.

KIEHL'S + ERYKAH BADU

Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Erykah Badu, along with Adrian Grenier, Kelly Slater and a team of Parsons students, each of whom are deemed to be "socially conscious celebrity influencers", have joined forces with Kiehl's to design label art for the brand's Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion. The initiative was launched just in time to celebrate Earth Day.
The lotion is made with Argan leaf extract and fairly-traded, organic, Moroccan Argan oil. The bottles are made from 100% recyclyed packaging. Ms. Badu's label is depicted above right and features a pscyhedelic combination of afro, ferns and butterflies. The limited edition bottles are available online and in stores for $55. One hundred percent of net proceeds of sale will be donated to the Waterkeeper Alliance.

LEITMOTIF: THE LEAF MOTIF

Known for her whimsical designs -- imagine a golden saltine cracker, a fortune cookie and a lucky wishbone as necklaces--Emily Elizabeth utilizes the mundane and often overlooked everyday items as inspiration for her line. I love the leaves and flowers that appear throughout and positively swooned when I saw the Venus headband! Emily Elizabeth works primarily with goldplated brass (pieces can be customized and plated in variations of gold) and was recession chic well before some of us ever heard of a collateralized debt obligation; the price on each of these sparklers belies the ingenuity and attention to detail. Her line is divided into three collections: "Sweet and Pretty", "Cool and Kitschy" and "Elegant and Sophisticated". I think they're all Just Darling!
Adjustable Fern Leaf Bangle, $100. Brass bangle with tarnish free brass wire.
P.S. Emily Elizabeth was kind enough to send this feather leaf lariat necklace over for a giveaway. Stay tuned for more details!
